Cultural Arts Enrichment Initiative

The Sarah West Gallery of Fine Art’s Cultural Arts Enrichment Initiative Program serves to facilitate and encourage greater accessibility to cultural involvements within our community, state and region. Through this Initiative the Sarah West Gallery of Fine Art, A Center for Cultural Arts hosts performing arts events, provides cultural arts representation at community and state gatherings  and sponsors charitable art activities. In addition to a varying range of cultural events, the program also maintains continual community involvements as Curator of the Smiths Station City Hall Exhibit Galleries, and collaborative partners for all participating Smiths Station area schools through the Sarah West Artistic Mentoring Scholarship for Continued Fine Art Education and ART IN SCHOOLS- a collaboration with the Lee County Board of Education for Smiths Station and Salem Alabama Elementary Schools.

ART IN SCHOOLS

ART IN SCHOOLS is a collaboration made possible by The Sarah West Gallery of Fine Art, A Center for Cultural Arts and the Lee County Board of Education. ART IN SCHOOLS is a Fine Art Education Program of The Sarah West Gallery of Fine Art, developed by Sarah West and Michele West for elementary schools. ART IN SCHOOLS | 6th Grade Art Classes debuted for Lee County Schools during the 2019-2020 school year at Smiths Station and Salem Alabama Schools, Wacoochee Elementary School, South Smiths Station Elementary School, East Smiths Station Elementary School and West Smiths Station Elementary School. During the program’s debut year, more than 11,000 drawing studies were presented to every 6th Grade student at the subscribing schools. Upon 6th Grade Graduation, students received art study portfolios featuring every work developed over the year of study. A Collective Student Exhibition was coordinated with the Alabama Historical Commission and Alabama State Capitol (*due to the COVID-19 world health crisis, this exhibition was transferred to an online exhibit gallery for appropriate accessibility.)

The Sarah West Artistic Mentoring Scholarship for Continued Fine Art Education

The Sarah West Artistic Mentoring Scholarship for Continued Fine Art Education is awarded to students within our area Smiths Station and Salem Elementary Schools. Participating schools and educators award equally distributed scholarships to elected students throughout the school year. This scholarship was founded upon desire to facilitate and fulfill a need within our community. Due to limited funding for cultural arts on both educational and civic levels, and also due to economic circumstances, the Sarah West Gallery of Fine Art felt compelled to bridge the gap. Through this scholarship program individuals are given a chance to pursue intellectual, creative and physical potential through the study of art. This scholarship affords individuals regardless of personal circumstance with an opportunity to explore and develop aspirations, increase skill for problem solving, strengthen attention span, social interaction, motor skills and creative development meanwhile gain a cultural education that otherwise may not be attainable for them due to their current circumstances.

The Scholarship Seed Fund

The Sarah West Artistic Mentoring Scholarship for Continued Fine Art Education serves the community in additional ways. Aside from our year round Scholarship awards distributed within area schools, the Sarah West Gallery of Fine Art also invests in the well-being of the community beyond grade-school years. Wherever we determine a need that might be met through our programs, we aspire to assist in ways that we can. The Scholarship Seed Fund furthers our ability to do just that. In this way anyone wishing to not only support Small Businesses and the Arts can also lend a helping hand to someone less fortunate, through a Purchase Gift from our Scholarship Seed Fund. For every purchase gift of a single course of art lessons, the Sarah West Gallery of Fine Art distributes said gift to an aspiring art student in need. Seed Fund Purchase Gifts may insure the continued education for one of our initial scholarship recipients or may also fund the opportunity for someone enduring hardship (financial or otherwise..) that would not have the chance to do so. Every Purchase Gift provides an all-inclusive education. For every Purchase Gift of art classes, designated “Scholarship Seed Fund” at the time of purchase, a person in need within our community is given the gift of life enrichment through the arts.

To make a purchase for a Scholarship, we invite you to contact the Sarah West Gallery of Fine Art directly. Your purchase gifts may be made via check or payment by phone *all major credit cards accepted.
